This is my story: 10 years off, 2 months on…

I was very active in my high school days with track & field, hiking, roller-blading, swimming, dancing, etc. Some of those activities stuck with me through college, some were replaced by other activities a bit less physically demanding. As the years ticked away I dropped virtually all forms of exercise. Despite a few attempts over the past 10 years, I’d been unable to stick with a disciplined exercise routine. I told myself that I wasn’t too out of shape. After all, I still weighed within 5 lbs. of what I did in high school. But it’s not all about the weight. I had almost no physical endurance and I’d gained a set of handles and bit of a gut. That six-pack I used to have… um, nowhere to be found.

Then my wife (Julie) introduced me to Studio Z.

The group fitness family has been amazing. The positive peer pressure from the great instructors has motivated me to stick with the exercise, even when my body is screaming at me to stop. The success I’ve seen achieved by others is also a great motivator.

For the past couple months, I’ve been trying to get in at least 3 classes a week (5 if I’m lucky). I try to get in at least 2 sessions of BodyPump and balance the rest with either Step or Zumba.

Though my six-pack hasn’t fully returned, it’s on the way. I feel more energized all the time and BodyPump has given me more upper-body strength and muscle toning than I’ve ever had. I look forward to seeing continued improvements in myself and watching all of you take the journey with me! Let’s keep it up!

Never have I had such a good time exercising!!! I love the music, instructors and sense of belonging that I never felt while working out in a gym setting. In this past year, I have lost inches in areas that surely needed it but more importantly, I have gained more self confidence in what my body can do. The instructors’ enthusiasm for what they do (and attempt to make us do) has really helped me to want to continue with Zumba and the ever wonderful BodyPump.

I’m not the person who has those great before and after weight loss pictures, but I do enjoy the results I have attained so far and am eager to continue the journey.

I am also doing WeightWatchers and was having trouble calculating the activity points for Zumba. So here is the formula:

Weight x Minutes of Exercise x 0008077 = Points

I do Zumba for one hour and I weigh 180. Multiply these three numbers for my activity points. 180 x 60 x .0008077= 8.72 activity points! This is the beauty of exercise!

Now I just need to figure out BodyPump’s activity points. I adore that class because you immediatley see, okay feel the results. I am just motivated by the class, the instructors, and the fab music.

I have not lost a lot of pounds, but the inches that I have lost is incredible! I have more energy and sleep much better at night. I have now added Body Pump and I am loving this as well. This class (WOW) sure gets you in the legs.
